King Crab is also one of the best seafoods in the world; its meat is dense, tender and delicately flavored with a hint of brine. The king crab has a strong smell, but it goes away after cooking. Serving king crab with some lemon and butter is an excellent way to prepare it for the table.

The most common king crab preparation is steam or bake until done; this involves steaming the crabs over boiling water in a covered pot for 20-30 minutes. We recommend that you use only fresh, whole crabs for this recipe; high-quality frozen crabs are not recommended because of their excessive salt content. 

If you choose to use frozen crabs, make sure that they are in good shape as well as fresh and not cracked or dented in any way before cooking. You can also cook the crabs in your oven at 200 degrees Fahrenheit (390 degrees Celsius) on a rack set in a roasting pan. 

The crabs must be placed on their backs in the oven because that is the position they assume when they draw up into their shells and protect their soft abdomens from damage. They take about 20 minutes to cook this way, but you will have to watch them closely for fear of overcooking.
